Between rain showers, the sun broke through the clouds on September 11 just in time for the Queen Emma Preschool's Spirit Day – an annual event that features the traditional QEP cheer. The school's students – ranging in age from 2 to 4 years – were escorted to the blacktop by their teachers for some mid-morning fun and excitement as they honored Queen Emma and celebrated the start of a new school year.
QEP Spirit Day is a long-standing tradition at the school and has been celebrated for at least the past 20 years. It sets the tone for excitement of learning and the joy of belonging to a group of caring adults and children.
"Since it's the beginning of the school year, we bring everyone together and teach the children our cheer," QEP Director Susan Okoga, said. "We're all wearing our Queen Emma shirts and cheering on the school year."
The youngest children are hearing the cheer for the first time and the older ones have started to commit it to memory. Here are the words so you can follow along with the video:
