On Saturday, February 22, the Pac 5 Riflery team will enter the ILH championships with high hopes. Last year, 3 out of the 4 St. Andrew’s JV Precision riflery team members placed in the top 5 slots. But, moving up to varsity will mean much greater competition. Here is what the 2019 JV champion, Hannah Okuda, had to say about this years’ team.

Question: What do you like about Riflery?

Hannah: I love how riflery forces me to calm myself down and focus only on what I'm doing. It helps to take my mind off of everything else that's going on in life. It's also very rewarding when you do well because we all work hard to improve and do our best.

Question: What is the best thing about being on the Pac 5 team?

Hannah: The best thing about being on Pac 5 is meeting people I wouldn't be able to otherwise. My team is my family. We cheer each other on and even when we're having a hard time, we give each other support.

Returning varsity player, Ava Makanui had this to say about her team:

I like that it's two seasons long and you get to learn the three different positions in the first season, which is sporter air riflery. The second season is precision, which is only standing. You learn how to use the five steps which are balance, natural point of aim, sight alignment, trigger pull, and follow through. I really learned how to balance and use breath control throughout my four years. The best thing about being on the Pac5 team is making new friends from different schools each year. It's so cool to see everyone come together and become a family. We also love getting apple pies if we beat our personal best! If we're one of the top six scorers in the match and helped beat the team's personal best score, then we would get hamburgers!

Riflery Members: (L-R) Amelie Katz, Hannah Okuda, Ava Makanui, Nicle query and Kira-ann Abe
