Information from our School Chaplain

On Tuesday, November 20, we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist with Holy Communion during our Thanksgiving Chapel. The Right Reverend Robert Fitzpatrick, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaiʻi, will be with us to celebrate. He will explain the meaning of communion and how to receive communion during the chapel.

For the Priory Lower School and The Prep, we ask that parents fill out a form specifying whether or not your child may receive communion. We do not want students to receive communion against their parents wishes. We ask that you communicate to your child the choice you have made before they come to school for Thanksgiving chapel.

As we move toward the Thanksgiving holiday, may we all be mindful of the many things we have to be thankful for and celebrate with grateful hearts.

All-School Information - September 20

Information from our Business Office

St. Andrew’s Schools has developed plans to respond to many different kinds of emergencies and the first few weeks of this school year has given us the opportunity to exercise a few of them.

As you know, we needed to implement our Hurricane Response Plan and postpone the start of the K-12 school year. We also closed Queen Emma Preschool in response to Hurricane Lane’s threat to the islands. Shortly after that, we prepared to implement our evacuation plan for The Preschool in response to Board of Water Supply warnings about the risk of Nu’uanu Reservoir overtopping the dam. Finally, just this week, we implemented our emergency response plan and locked down the Queen Emma Square campus when sheriffs responded to a call on a neighboring property and the suspect briefly fled across our campus.

We are pleased to report that in each instance, our faculty and staff responded professionally and effectively to the situation at hand using the training and procedures provided by the school. While not everything went perfectly to plan, we were successful at keeping our students, employees and property from harm.

Please feel free to contact school administrators if you would like to know more about our emergency planning efforts here at school or if you would like to volunteer in future emergency planning exercises.

We recommend that you consider developing an emergency plan for your own family and suggest the resources below as a potential starting point:

Please Show Your Support on October 11!

Please support The Priory Chamber Strings and their music education by eating at California Pizza Kitchen Ala Moana on Thursday, October 11! CPK will give us 20 percent of the dining bill when you dine in or take-out at the Ala Moana location. Present the physical or digital flyer to your waiter, and The Priory Chamber Strings will earn the 20 percent.

The money raised will help The Priory Chamber Strings – under the direction of Chad Uyehara – attend the prestigious Festival of Gold in Los Angeles in March 2019. They will perform in the beautiful Segerstrom Concert Hall and receive constructive criticism from world-renowned music teachers. The group will also compete against other orchestras for awards and honors in the Hollywood Heritage Festival. Other activities on this Spring Break trip include a soundtrack session workshop at Disneyland, a concert by the LA Philharmonic, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, and free time at Disneyland, Universal Studios, and downtown LA. The invitation to this event came after the group's award-winning performance at the Anaheim Heritage Festival in 2017.

Congratulations, Chamber Strings and Mr. Uyehara!

Visiting Campus

At St. Andrew’s Schools, we welcome you to join us on campus for a variety of special events as well as routine drop-offs and pick-ups.

We kindly ask that you abide by some simple rules in order to keep our community safe. Please keep the following in mind when you visit.

Do:

  • Come and visit us at school when you can. Our school community is enriched by your involvement!
  • Consider joining your child for breakfast in Ylang Ylang Courtyard. We ask that you please exit campus before the start of the school day when the first bell rings at 7:40 a.m.
  • Please use the crosswalks and observe other instructions regarding traffic safety, regardless of your age.  Young children will observe and mimic your behavior.
  • Drive with caution when you’re here. We constantly have children present so please drive slowly and stay focused on the road.
  • Park in visitor parking when it is available and please be understanding when it is not. Visitor stalls are located in Lot D, Stalls #30-41.
  • Check in at the Health Office – Transfiguration Hall, T-101 – for a visitor pass during school hours (7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.).

Don't:

  • Do not park in stalls reserved for faculty, staff, police or the Diocese (blue cones in Lot D). We will make every effort to accommodate your parking needs but please be aware that improperly parked vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense. Please speak to a staff person if you have an urgent need and we will direct you to parking on or off campus as needed.
  • Do not drive the wrong way in the driveway even for a short distance. This creates hard-to-predict traffic flow and increases the chance of an accident.
  • Do not go directly into campus during school hours without checking in. If you let us know that you will be picking up your child, we will arrange to have her/him brought to the Health Office prior to your arrival. If coming in for a visit, you must check-in and get a visitor pass so we know who is on  campus in the event of an emergency.

More specific instructions regarding these topics can be found in the Parent-Student Handbook for each school:

All-School Information - August 30

Information from our Business Office

Morning Traffic Flow Plan - On busy mornings when students are being dropped off, safety is an especially important concern. Coned lanes are set up on the road surrounding Queen Emma Square. Please note the following safety guidelines and precautions:

  • Parents whose children are prepared to make an immediate exit from the car should use The Priory's "Zip Lane" (the lane closer to the park). Students should exit only at the crosswalk and only from the right side of the vehicle. The students should use the crosswalk to enter the school grounds.
  • Parents who need to exit the car to assist their children, or parents whose children need a little more time to gather their belongings, should use the lane closer to the school buildings. Ideally, the leading car should pull past the main gate and up to the limit line on the pavement. Students should exit from the left side of the car.
  • Please refrain from parking or waiting in any area designated for faculty parking, cathedral parking, police parking or emergency lanes. If you wish to walk your child onto campus, or if you wish to wait in your vehicle until school begins, visitor parking stalls are available between the gymnasium and the cathedral.

Mahalo for your cooperation in keeping our campus safe!
