Upcoming Travel Opportunities

Fiji - Summer 2020- Open to current 8th grade- 11th grade students

It is not too late! We have an incredible opportunity to support students to travel to Fiji! Fiji is the destination of the Priory's summer travel and it promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip has been developed especially for St. Andrew's Schools in collaboration with Rustic Pathways, a student travel company, whose focus for its 36 years has been sending students out into the world for safe and transformative travel experiences. Our trip, taking place August 2-12, will focus on Marine Field Studies and Women's Empowerment, two areas of study important to The Priory's school culture and global learning curriculum. The Global Leadership Center is offering generous travel grants to interested students. For a more detailed itinerary and enrollment information, please see the trip website. Japan- Rescheduled for October 2021

The Spring Break trip to Japan Trip has been rescheduled for October 8-18, 2020 and has been reopened for interested travelers, please contact our Global Leadership Center Alden Watts awatts@standrewsschools.org for more information.

Peru, Spring Break 2021

Ms. Donathan and Señora Santiago-Cordero, along with the Global Leadership Center, are thrilled to announce that the Priory is going to Peru! If you are interested in exploring the rich artistic tradition of this South American country, working with indigenous women, testing your Spanish, and visiting ancient Incan cities, this trip is for you! Start planning for next year - this trip will depart Spring Break 2021. Te veo alli!

Re-Enrollment Reminder

Re-enrollment contracts and non-refundable deposits for the 2020-21 school year are due by this Friday, March 13. Contracts and deposits not received by this date will be assessed a $100.00 late fee. You should have received an email with a link to your child's re-enrollment contract on March 3.

Plastic-Free is the Way to Be! Poster Contest

Congratulations to Kaianna Stella, Grade 5, The Priory for winning first place in the "Plastic-Free is the Way to Be" Poster Contest. The contest challenged both The Priory Lower School and The Prep to make a poster showing a creative way to reduce single-use plastics. Her creative poster will be showcased in the front of Kennedy Hall and around the Lower School campus today.

Queen Emma Ball

Important for families with students in grades kindergarten through 12: Given the high level of preparation needed to ready our space for this large event, there will be no After School Care at the downtown campus (grades K-12) on Thursday, April 2. Thank you for your understanding as you coordinate alternate childcare arrangements or pick up your child at the end of the school day. Please note that this does not affect students at Queen Emma Preschool. The Preschool will operate on its regular schedule on April 2.

Financial Aid Application Deadline Approaching

As a reminder, all families currently receiving financial aid must complete the Parent Financial Statement annually in order for the Financial Aid Committee to make an award determination for your family. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2020.

You may find the financial aid application on our website here. Please review the Frequently Asked Questions if you need a refresher about the process.

Host Families for Exchange Students Needed

Please consider serving as a Welcoming Host Family for one of the arriving (January 5) Four Exchange Students, who will be attending St. Andrew's for the spring semester.

Hosts can determine the length of stay from 8 weeks to a whole semester and select the appropriate student to become a family member. All are outstanding students, speak English well and are highly motivated to share culture/customs while becoming an integrated member of the host family.

Hosts are asked to provide a bed (shared room is fine) and meals are taken with the family. Students are fully covered by health, accident and liability Insurance and have their own personal spending money (clothing, entertainment, souvenirs, activities, etc.). Hosts serve as volunteers.

Important Message: Fire and Shelter-in-Place Drills

Throughout the year, St. Andrew’s Schools practices fire and shelter-in-place drills with students. These drills are intended to practice emergency situation responses and to ensure that students know what course of action to take during an emergency.

We will be conducting our first shelter-in-place drill of the year on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. We will also be using this as an opportunity to test our emergency notification system. The alert will clearly state that a drill is in progress. It is important that parents verify they have received the notification, via text and email.

Be sure to that your contact information is kept current to ensure that you receive these messages and emails. Contact information can be updated on the website or by sending an email to change@standrewsschools.org.

Financial aid application is opening soon! The School & Student Services, SSS by NAIS, will release the financial aid application on October 2, 2019 to start the financial aid process for school year 2020-2021. The due date to complete the financial aid process is February 15, 2020. Please read, How to Apply and Frequently Asked Questions.

Student Shadow Day

We have two designated days for our current students to bring a friend to school for Shadow Day. This is a great opportunity for others to see what St. Andrew's is like, meet new friends and even enjoy lunch on us! Visitors will stay at school for the entire school day, 7:45 a.m.– 3 p.m., one day per guest. This year's Shadow Days are Monday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 9.

Visitors may not shadow in their friend’s class unless they are currently in the same grade. If your child’s visitor is in a different grade, the visitor will be assigned to a student in his/her current grade level. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer After School Care for our guests.

This event is open to any students wishing to spend a day at The Prep or The Priory. Students interested in attending that have not been invited by a friend are welcome to attend and will be assigned a current student to accompany them.

Visiting Campus

At St. Andrew’s Schools, we welcome you to join us on campus for a variety of special events as well as routine drop-offs and pick-ups. We kindly ask that you abide by some simple rules in order to keep our community safe. Please keep the following in mind when you visit.

Do:

• Come and visit us at school when you can. Our school community is enriched by your involvement!

• Consider joining your child for breakfast in Ylang Ylang Courtyard. We ask that you please exit campus before the start of the

school day when the first bell rings at 7:40 a.m.

• Please ensure that your Campus Permit placard is visible on your dashboard at all times while your vehicle is on campus.

• Please use the crosswalks and observe other instructions regarding traffic safety, regardless of your age. Young children will observe and mimic your behavior.

• Drive with caution when you’re here. We constantly have children present so please drive slowly and stay focused on the road.

• Respect and obey the Reserved and Assigned parking stall signs.

• Park in visitor parking when it is available and please be understanding when it is not. Visitor stalls are located in Lot D, Stalls #30-41.

• Check in at the Health Office – Transfiguration Hall, T-101 – for a visitor pass during school hours (7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.).

Don't:

• Do not park in stalls reserved for faculty, staff, police or the Diocese (blue cones in Lot D). We will make every effort to

accommodate your parking needs but please be aware that improperly parked vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Please speak to a staff person if you have an urgent need and we will direct you to parking on or off campus as needed.

• Do not drive the wrong way in the driveway, even for a short distance, unless directed to do so by a staff member who is

present at that time. This creates hard-to-predict traffic flow and increases the chance of an accident.

• Do not go directly into campus during school hours without checking in. If you let us know that you will be picking up your

child, we will arrange to have her/him brought to the Health Office prior to your arrival. If coming in for a visit, you must check- in and get a visitor pass so we know who is on campus in the event of an emergency.

Parking Permits

Please support the launch of the new campus permit placards and display your family’s permit on your dashboard at all times when your vehicle is on campus.

The goals of this initiative are to:

Expedite afternoon student pick-ups, especially for Kindergarten and 1^st grade students who released early. The color-coded permits (red = K & 1^st, white = all other grades) will help streamline the queueing of traffic.
Quickly assess which vehicles do and do not belong on campus.
To improve overall campus security.

Morning Drop Off Tips for Parents

St. Andrew’s Schools is continuously seeking ways to improve safety for our students. This begins each school day with the student drop off in front of Transfiguration Hall. Supervised drop off officially begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 7:40 a.m. when the first bell rings. To help the flow of traffic, Queen Emma Square is divided into two lanes, a slow lane to the left and the fast lane to the right. The following table for tips on using the slow and fast lanes.

With Aloha being one of our school values, we encourage all to practice this value while on campus by being gracious, kind and compassionate. With this in mind,

Drive slowly and safely through the oval and be aware of people, vehicles, and obstacles;
Use time wisely during drop off so the parents behind you aren’t kept waiting behind you;
Remind your child to gather his/her belongings and be ready to get out of the vehicle when you stop;
Please don’t honk your horn; it can be startling and unsettling for everyone; and
Never hurts to brighten someone's day with a smile!
