A highlight of the holiday season that most look forward to is all the food that is prepared and shared. Food brings folks together and evokes gratitude amongst those who gather around a meal. It's this gratitude that motivates our students to help the Hawaiʻi Food Bank in ensuring that other families are also able to experience the joy a simple meal can bring. This year, the HSSC's (High School Student Council) SLOHA (Service with Aloha) committee once again organized the school's annual food drive for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank, helping to remind students about the importance of giving back. "Especially during the holiday season, it's really important that we use that holiday spirit that we have to give back to our community and to help those in need," said Catherine Mount, HSSC President.

The food drive was a whole school effort bringing in 2,426 pounds of canned foods, doubling last year's collection of 1,156 pounds. The top contributors from the Lower Schools were, The Priory fifth grade with a ratio of 7 cans per student and The Prep fifth grade with a ratio of 19 cans per student. The top contributors in the Upper School were the juniors, followed by the seniors, and then sophomores. On November 26, the committee delivered the bounty of food to the Hawaiʻi Food Bank in Māpunapuna. Lauren Mukae, HSSC Treasurer and the lead on this effort said, "The amount of our donation far exceeded the Hawaiʻi Food Bank's expectations. Way to go!"
