Happy Birthday, Queen Emma!
Megan Dung

Hauʻoli Lā Hānau to our founder, Emma Kalanikaumakaʻamano Kaleleonālani Naʻea Rooke (January 2, 1836 – April 25, 1885). January 2, 2021 marked what would have been her 185th birthday!

Queen Emma is often referred to as “the people’s queen” due to her commitment and dedication to improving the lives of others. She recognized the need for young girls to have access to quality education and in 1867, founded St. Andrew’s Priory School for Girls. Since our founding, the School has grown to include The Prep and Queen Emma Preschool, in addition to The Priory. Today we continue to live out the school motto, Kūlia i ka Nuʻu- Strive for the Highest.
