Queen Emma Preschool
Name: Kaitlyn Kilroy
Short Description: Kaitlyn Kilroy is a Kailua resident, mom, and passionate preschool teacher. She has spent the last decade committed to teaching, inspiring, and learning alongside young children in the non-profit sector. Kilroy is a devoted educator, deeply rooted in nature-based education and offering children active learning experiences. She believes that children are filled with a natural curiosity about the world around them, and when their curiosities are nurtured and celebrated, remarkable things can happen! Her personal philosophy is to provide a stimulating, educationally rich, and safe learning space for children to grow. Prior to teaching at Queen Emma Preschool, Kilroy developed STEM-based training for caregivers and educators, as well as creating a STEM curriculum for PreK learners. She is currently attending HPU, and will earn her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership in the summer of 2023.
Name: Julianna Kawai
Short Description: Julianna Kawai was born and raised in Hawaiʻi. Julianna has been married for 18 years and has a daughter who is a sophomore at Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama. Julianna has a Bachelor's degree in Family Resources from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. On the weekends, she enjoy spending time with her family. They enjoy driving around the island to see the sights and eat ono foods. Her family also enjoys watching their daughter participate in extracurricular activities.
Name: Heidi Tamanaha
Short Description: Heidi Tamanaha is a happily married mom of 9 year old twins. Prior to her arrival, Tamanaha worked at Kapiolani Medical Center and the DOE. She also took over and ran the family business which was a gasoline and service station for over 20 years. Tamanaha sold her business and decided she wanted to spend time in the preschool classrooms at QEP where her children attended.
Lower School: The Prep & The Priory
Name: Tayla-Nohealeimamo Vaughan-Darval (Nohea)
Position: Priory, 2nd-grade teacher
Education: B.A. in Hawaiian Language, University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa, currently pursuing her Master of Education in Teaching - Elementary (MEdT)
Short Description of Strengths: Nohea is a keen observer of our schools’ important presence in the community and with our students and their families. Nohea is very excited about contributing to our school community as a member of our teaching faculty and to the craft of teaching.
Name: Rebecca Wilhite
Position: Prep Kindergarten teacher
Education: B.A. in Elementary Education: Western Governors University, B.A. in Speech Communications: Western Washington University, and will earn her M.Ed. in Education: Teaching and Administration from the University of South Dakota in 2023.
Short Description of Strengths: Rebecca has more than 10 years of teaching experience in private and public schools, most recently at Mid-Pacific Institute with an emphasis on personalized instruction to challenge and inspire students. She is looking forward to uncovering her students’ unique passions, strengths, and interests by discovery, practice, creation, and self-reflection.
Name: Kamaile Fukino
Position: The Priory Lower School Teacher Aide
Education: A.A.: Leeward Community College, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting, University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa.
Short Description of Strengths: Kamaile has a strong work ethic, is responsible, hardworking, dependable, and an avid team player. As a substitute teacher, Kamaile is often seen on campus working in various teaching positions and productions in the Lower School and Upper School. Her ability to adapt the lessons to fit the needs of each student as well as to lead and instruct students of all ages makes her a very well-liked and respected friend of St. Andrewʻs Schools. We are very grateful to welcome Kamaile as a full-time teacher aide in the Lower School.
Name: Lihau Galo
Position: The Priory Lower School Teacher Aide
Education: B.S. Elementary Education: Chaminade University, Associates in Liberal Arts: Leeward Community College, currently pursuing her M.Ed. at Chaminade University.
Short Description of Strengths: Lihau has taught in the public school system for 7 years. After taking a short leave of absence, Līhau decided to renew her passion for teaching and is grateful for the opportunity to serve at St. Andrewʻs Schools. In addition to her beautiful smile and willingness to serve in all areas of our school, Lihau has her elementary education license through the Hawaiʻi Board of Education, and has been trained in Orton-Gillngham: Math and Reading, ELLS, and GLAD (guided language acquisition development), among other educational training. Līhau brings with her not only her experience, but, her "passion by making an impact on the lives of the children of Hawaiʻi through education. Whether I am working directly with students or fellow educators, I feel it is my personal kūleana to use the gift of my experiences and education to prepare our keiki to become problem solvers and community contributors in our ever-changing world."

Position: The Prep Lower School Teacher Aide
Education: B.A. in Elementary Ed.: University of Cebu, Philippines, M.Ed.: Cebu State College of Science and Technology, (Special Education), Cebu City, Philippines, Certified Early Childhood Education-Teacher/Director; Hawaii State Department of Human Services
Short Description of Strengths: Formerly a lead teacher at Queen Emma Preschool for 2 years, Irenea has over 20 years of experience working with children. She "loves helping students reach their full potential and supporting my colleagues in creating the best and meaningful learning experience." Irenea also has a daughter, Jurene in the 7th grade in The Priory.
Name: Makana L. Macomber
Position: The Prep PE K-6 Teacher
Education: B.A. Elementary Education: Hawaiʻi Pacific University, currently pursuing his graduate degree in Educational Leadership at Hawaiʻi Pacific University
Short Description of Strengths: For the past 3 years, Makana has been a member of our Lower School community as a student teacher intern, an aide, a substitute teacher, and an ASC supervisor, while earning his undergraduate degree in Education. He is known to be a well-rounded individual, with many diverse interests, and with a love for Hawaiian culture. He values the importance of an education and is always willing to help others. Makana exemplifies our schoolsʻ values of respecting the dignity and worth of each student, demonstrating genuine care and awareness of each individual.
Upper School: The Priory
Name: Kyeyoung Oh
Position: Choir Teacher
Education: B.A. Music, M.A. Choral Directing
Short Description of Strengths: Mr. Kyeyoung Oh has assumed the role of Choir Director. Kyeyoung, holds his Bachelor’s degree in Music from Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea and a Masterʻs degree in Music, specializing in Choral Directing from State University of New York at Binghamton. Kyeyoung brings 15 years of experience directing choirs in Seoul, Korea and in the United States. He has served as the Choir Director and Music Ministry Director at Christ United Methodist Church in Honolulu since 2017.
Name: Christopher Tanner Darval (Tanner)
Position: Maintenance Supervisor
Short Description of Strengths: Tanner comes to St. Andrew’s with a wealth of knowledge and experience in general contracting, maintenance, and landscaping. Tannerʻs personal and professional experiences are evident in his passion for the school, students, and families.

Position: Administrative Assistant
Education: B.P.S. in Hospitality Management: New York Institute of Technology, A.O.S. in Culinary Arts
Short Description of Strengths: Rebekah has a strong hospitality management and customer-focused background. Her interactions with faculty, staff, students, and families embody the values of Queen Emma and the school. Her contributions have positively impacted projects assigned to her, and she is always looking to challenge herself to learn new things each day.
